We had a good day
last Thursday celebrating World Book Day. Charlie Duncan, an author,
spent the afternoon with Year 5 playing reading and cooking games
with some of the children and reading extracts from his book:
“Gastronimus and the
Legend of Mr
Grrrumblebum,” which has a healthy eating theme running through a
fun story about a chef from outer space. Just about everyone in
school was involved in a cookery activity at some point and our
school council decided that everyone in school should be offered
free fruit on that day, not just the younger children, so went
shopping with Mrs Leith to Somerfield. We also gave book tokens to
the four most impressively dressed chefs:
Misha in F2, Oliver in Year 2, Giorgio in Year 3 and Eddie in Year
5.
Westminster
Student Climate Summit
In February eleven
children from St Mary’s represented us at Westminster’s Student
Climate Summit at the Council House. Our children were asked to
argue for the position of the USA on environmental and climate
matters and were in debate with schools representing Japan,
Bangladesh, China, India, France and the UK.
Our 11 Year 5 and
Year 6 pupils were fantastic and held their own against a barrage of
questions fired at them about the USA’s stance - not necessarily the
easiest position to defend. Today St Mary’s, tomorrow the World!
