If
you have a child at St Mary’s, or if you EVER had a child at St
Mary’s, you are automatically a member of our Friends Association.
The Friends are a charity and they raise money for the school as
well as organising events such as the Christmas Fair to bring our
community together. They have donated money for books this year as
well as paying for the ‘ice’ rink, which was an experience something
many of the children will remember for a long time.
The Friends are
meeting in school just after 9 o’clock on Friday morning to think
about the year ahead and they’d love to see some new faces at the
meeting. They usually meet in the staff room, depending on numbers.

Story Telling
Week
You may remember
that last year we held a special week focusing on story telling. We
felt that this was very successful and so this year the school is
involved in a long ‘speaking and listening’ project involving oral
story telling as a preparation for writing. This is based on the
simple principle that if you can’t say it then you can’t write it!
As part of this we are holding another ‘Story Telling Week’ in
February. Sian Rickett, our literacy coordinator, writes:
“We
are celebrating National Storytelling week during the first week of
February with a host of special assemblies, storytelling visitors,
activities and competitions. If you have a story you would be happy
to share with the children, please let your child's class teacher or
our learning mentor, Sheila Leith, know. We have a lot of things
going on during the week but it's always extra special when mums and
dads get involved."
