February 22nd 2010 - Newsletter

Welcome Back

I hope everybody had a restful holiday and is refreshed and ready for the  coming term.

In my last newsletter I mentioned some work that we are having done to put awnings outside Years 1, 2 and 3. The more eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that things didn’t exactly go to plan! Hopefully, they will be installed soon and we’ll be ready for the sunny weather - if it ever arrives.

Some Reminders

Before the holiday we noticed that some children in the junior classes were bringing cards into school to swap with their classmates. I’d just like to remind everyone that swapping cards are never allowed in the infant classes (F1, F2, Y1 and Y2) - they cause too many arguments - and in the junior classes they are only allowed during ‘Golden Time’ on Fridays.

The other thing I’d like to remind everyone about is the need to check book-bags every day for newsletters, trip letters, etc. In one class last term we copied and sent home 30 letters about a trip and over half were lost and had to be copied again - and of these, a few had to be copied for a third time! This is a waste of paper, but it’s also a waste of time. Please check book-bags when your children get home and help us to save a forest or two!

Governors and Parents Evening

On Tuesday, March 16th we are holding our governors and parents meeting. This is an opportunity for the whole (adult) school community to come together. Last year we had a Spanish focus on this evening, with Miss Crowther explaining how we teach Spanish in school and a demonstration of Flamenco (not by Miss Crowther!)

This year we are using the evening to let you know more about the ’speaking and listening’ project  we are involved with - hopefully with some video clips of the children during story-telling week and some practical things  for you to do.

 There will also be food!

We’ll get back to you over the next few weeks to give more details .
