Uniform

As the weather seems to be turning a little warmer this is a good time to change into summer uniform. You can get a full uniform list from the school office, but basically it’s:

  • white polo shirts

  • grey trousers

  • blue check dresses for girls, if they want to wear a dress

  • school sweatshirts

  • dark shoes

 Please also note:

  • no open-toed sandals

  • no cardigans

The school photographer is here on May 6th to take class photos so please make sure your child’s uniform is sorted by then.

Staff News

We now have all of our staff back from various far-flung parts of the world. The travel crisis did not affect St Mary’s  as badly as it affected some Westminster schools, but it did have an affect on individuals and it’s been a particularly stressful time for them. We’re glad to see everyone back safely.

At the end of the week Charlotte Crowther begins her maternity leave; she goes with our love, we wish her well and look forward to seeing her again some time soon! We hope that Sarah Kent (who taught in Year 2 for a few weeks) will be able to cover Charlotte’s role until the summer.

School Governors

Our governors would like to introduce themselves to you and so, most weeks, we will have part of this newsletter dedicated to this. Our first governor is Cathy Slater, who writes:

“I have been a governor of St Mary's school for 20 years , but have been associated with the school since my elder daughter came here in 1981.

From St Mary's she went to North Westminster school and then on to Oxford University where she got a First in physics, so I think I can thank St Mary's for giving her such a good education. My younger daughter has Downs Syndrome, and went to a special school where she was taught by Mrs Hadfield!

My son came to this school in 1990 and soon after I became the Local Authority (Westminster) appointed governor on the suggestion of the other local authority governor, because at that time there were two local authority governors. She and I both had children at the school. I had been a parent governor at my younger daughter’s special school, so felt confident about being a governor at another school.

When my son left St Mary's in 1996, I liked the school so much that I continued as local authority governor, by which time the school only required one.

I am the link governor for Special Educational Needs and with the learning mentor; I am also the link governor for English as an additional language. I was born in England but my father was Indian and my mother American. I went to India when I was seven, returned when I was 12, and have lived in Camden and Westminster.”

Deputy Lord Mayor's Visit

We had a visit from the deputy Lord Mayor, Carolyn Keen, on Friday. She came along to our Friday assembly  with Jack Spencer from the council to talk about the role of Lord Mayor of Westminster and the role of the council.

Councillor Keen is the Ward Councillor for Bryanston and Dorset Square and we discovered on Friday that her grandfather went to our school.

The children enjoyed seeing all of the ceremonial dress as well as the mace which was originally the mayor of Marylebone’s mace.

It was a good day to come and talk about citizenship as we are in the middle of a General Election campaign.
