IWe’ve
got a few reminders for the start of the new year - most of which I
am sure you are familiar with!
Start of the day
Parents must stay
with their children until they are passed into the care of the class
teacher at 9 o’clock. The playground gate is open to the street and,
although there are staff in playground from 8.50, a child could
easily walk out without being noticed. Obviously this does not apply
to older children who bring themselves to school.
Pushchairs and scooters
Parents must not
leave pushchairs in school, or on the school site, after the start
of the day. We do not have anywhere to keep them. The same is true
of scooters.
We do have some
racks in the school car park for bicycles.
Mobile ‘phones
Children are not
allowed to bring mobile ‘phones to school. Older pupils who come to
school (and go home) by themselves may, after discussion with our
school admin staff, bring a ‘phone if absolutely necessary but this
must be left in the office and not be taken into the playground.
School uniform
Most children are
still in summer uniform at the moment. Please note that open-toed
sandals, fashion boots and trainers are not allowed.
Secondary
Transfer
Our secondary
transfer meeting is tomorrow at the end of the school day. This
meeting is for Year 6 parents but it is also open to Year 5 parents
who want to start gathering information about secondary schools
before it all starts getting serious.
Music
The Wigmore Hall
is offering some workshops for 11 to 16 year olds on Saturdays. The
first is on 10th October between 10 am and 3.30 pm and is called
‘Jazz On’ - the theme being jazz! On 14th November they’re doing
‘Music ‘n’ Manga.’ The days are just £10 each or £15 for both if
booked at the same time. To book call: 0207-935-2141.
There are also a
couple of Handel music workshops at Westminster Music Library, also
on the 10th October, for children of all ages and musical abilities.
Call Ruth Walters on: 0207-641-4286, or email: rwalters@westminster.gov.uk
if you are interested.
Updates
You may have
noticed we’re missing two trees in the playground. Unfortunately
both died during this last school year and were taken down during
the holiday for safety reasons.
The building work
is (more-or-less) finished; just a few wrinkles need ironing out.
The main irritation is that the lift has broken down twice in a
week! Apparently some faulty components were installed. They’ve been
replaced and we’re hoping the lift will be predictably boring from
now on.
