I hope everybody
had a good break and is ready for another busy school year.
We do have a
couple of new teachers in school at the start of this school year.
Sonia Bell is teaching Year 2 (as I mentioned last year) and Natalie
Keenan will be covering Year 5 until Mr Carroll’s return which,
hopefully, will be very soon!
We’ve got lots
happening this week and next.
Parent Meetings
Our first parent
meetings of the year are scheduled for this week and next; you
should receive information from your child’s class teacher about
this either today or tomorrow.
This meeting is a
general meeting for all parents to outline class routines (for
example homework systems) and expectations for the coming year. Year
4, Year 5 and Year 6 have meetings scheduled for this week (Year 6
are away at Marchant’s Hill next week).
Secondary
Transfer
I know it seems a
bit early to be talking about secondary transfer, but the secondary
schools are holding open evenings (and days) over the next few
weeks. We hold a meeting for the parents of children in Year 6 to
try and explain a process that can be complicated for some parents.
For the past few years we have also invited Year 5 parents to this
meeting. This is a good time for Year 5 parents to look around the
schools without the pressure that comes with choosing a secondary
school for Year 6 parents. The meeting is on Tuesday, next week
(15th September) at 3.30 in the ICT room.
Ramadan
Just a reminder
for any families with older children in the juniors who may be
fasting during Ramadan that we need written notification if your
child is fasting. Please let us know which days your child is
fasting. Years 4 and 6 are swimming this term so it’s probably not a
good idea for children to fast on those days. Wednesdays are also PE
days for the juniors and so please bear this in mind, too.
School Journey
Our Year 6 pupils
are off to Marchant’s Hill next week for their residential school
journey. Marchant’s Hill is near Hindhead in Surrey and is
designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. The children do
all sorts of ‘outdoor and adventurous’ activities designed to build
their confidence and encourage teamwork. Hopefully the weather will
be kind, but the children will have a fabulous time whatever the
weather’s like - they always do!
