Charity Fundraising

Thank you to everyone who donated money last week. The collection for our Harvest service in school on Thursday raised £54.10 which has been donated to Oxfam’s East Africa Drought Appeal.

St Mary’s Church organised the service for us. There’s a new team at the church who link with us: Mark Dighé leads the Kids’ Church (he replaces Paul Sawrey) and Ed Flint is the clergy link with the school. Ed replaces Will  Van der Hart who left over a year ago. It was good to see them both on Thursday, as well as Jenny Peters who leads St Mary’s Children’s Team.

On Friday we collected money for ‘Jeans for Genes’ and raised £179.28. Year 4’s assembly on Friday afternoon explained what the charity was about as well as some basic genetics in a very accessible way.

Attendance

We had a meeting in school last week to meet our new Educational Welfare Officer. She plans to visit the school every two weeks to monitor our registers and absences. The Local Authority (Westminster) now treat any child with 85% (or less) attendance as an automatic referral to their service. It has become virtually impossible for the school to authorise holiday leave outside the normal school holidays and I would urge all families to organise  holidays and overseas trips to coincide with the school’s scheduled holidays.

Singing Lessons

Due to popular demand singing lessons are back at St Mary’s! If your child would like singing lessons please get an application form from the school office and return it as soon as possible. Mr Jonathan  Dods, who is the director of music at St Michael and All Angels Church in Chiswick, will be here every Tuesday. The cost is £7.50 for 15 minutes.

Sukkot

It’s Sukkot this week and our best wishes go to all our families who are celebrating this festival.
