Welcome Back

I hope everybody had a good break and is well-rested: this is always a really busy time and we need all the energy we can muster in the weeks leading up to Christmas! Please note all of the dates for this term below.

Winter Uniform

Just a reminder that the children need to be in Winter Uniform now.

Winter uniform is a long sleeved white shirt or blouse with a collar and a tie, grey trousers (or skirt), school sweatshirt, dark shoes and plain socks. The ties can be bought from Mrs Monaghan on Wednesday, as can sweatshirts. Please make sure each item of uniform is named clearly.

Black History Assembly

I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in our assembly to mark Black History Month on Friday morning and especially Sonia Walker who organised it all. The children who took part did really well; we had ‘Abundance’ (who do  story-telling and music workshops) telling an African  story with the children as well as running workshops for Year 1 and 2 afterwards; Mrs Williams sang (unaccompanied) and at the end we had a young lady named Derica tell us her own inspirational story - a story about the power of reading and education. It was a really inspirational and uplifting assembly and a great note to end the term on.

Deputy Headteacher

You may remember that Sarah Taylor, our deputy head, resigned in July 2009 after spending a year on maternity leave. Mrs Sheppard has been doing a brilliant job as acting deputy for well over two years now (she was acting deputy when Sarah and I were helping with another Westminster School). We advertised for a new permanent deputy last year but did not shortlist. We advertised again at the start of the Autumn term and interviewed three candidates in the last week before the holiday.

I’m very pleased to tell you that we appointed a new deputy who will start with us in January. Her name in Toni Samuel and we are all looking forward to working with her.

I’d also like to thank Kyra Sheppard for all that she has done over the last two years; she has done a really good job.

She’s also still our deputy until January so we have a couple of more months appreciate her as our deputy.
