This week we are
holding our parent/teacher meetings after school on Wednesday and
Thursday. This meeting is to discuss how your child has settled into
his/her new class and to report on progress so far. The teachers
only have 10 minutes for each meeting. This is usually enough to
discuss the important things. If your meeting needs more time than
this it may be necessary to organise a further meeting when more
time will be available.
Junior
children had letters about these meetings last week. Infant classes
have ‘sign-up’ sheets.
This is also a
good opportunity to remind everybody about meetings with teachers
generally. Teachers are always willing to meet with parents and the
more this happens, generally speaking, the smoother things run. If
you need to talk to your child’s class teacher, please arrange an
appointment, either by dropping a note into the office or sending it
to school with your child.
Obviously, staff
are always available to hear quick messages from parents at the
start of the day - for example, to let us know if there’s a change
in pick-up arrangements or your child is a little under the weather
and you want us to keep an eye on them. But, at the start of the
day, staff are not available for ‘proper’ discussions; the end of
the day, by appointment, are the times when time is less pressured.
School
Communications
It’s also
important to check your child’s book bag when they come home. Lots
of school communications use ‘pupil post’ and this is how letters
about trips and school newsletters, for example, reach most parents.
Friends of St
Mary's Social Event
Please note that
the Friends Association have cancelled their social event planned
for 17th November.
Class Assembly
It’s Year 1’s
class assembly this week. Friday at 2.30.
Free Family
Workshop at the ICA
There is a free
workshop at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in the Mall on
Monday, 16th November from 4pm to 6pm. It’s called ‘Toy Orchestra’
and it’s a workshop for both adults and children to explore music
making in a fun, playful environment. The workshop uses sound-making
toys and participants are asked to bring their own sound-making toy
with them. Call 020-7930-3647 for more information.
Poetry Slam
Well done to Year
5 and Year 6 who have been involved in ‘Poetry Slam’ workshops.
Children from both classes performed their poetry to the Junior
classes last Thursday afternoon. The poems were excellent and the
children’s performances were outstanding; really confident and full
of enthusiasm.
Especially well
done to Khalidah, Asma and Joseph from Year 6 and Amy and Yazmin
from Year 5 who were judged to be the winners!
